Revisiting My Fireplace Redesign

This fireplace wall transformation has been so much fun to share at linky parties, today it's also heading over to Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps On The Porch.

A couple weeks ago I linked the original post to Hooked On Houses, a post written about my fireplace transformation while working on my Kitchen & Family Room Redesign several months ago. Seeing this post again reminded me how much I LOVE the way my fireplace wall project turned out. So much so that I thought the project was worth another visit with this post.

Now watch the transformation. Here is the before.

And the scene after removing the fireplace mantel and tile surround.

One day while Max was at school I decided I could take on the job of removing the original mantel and tile. By the time he returned home all traces of these were gone, leaving some nice holes in the wall.

When he saw what I had done he cried out, "OH NO, OH NO, THAT'S BAD, THAT'S BAD!" Suddenly I saw what I had done through his four year old eyes. He knew if he ever attempted anything remotely close to what I had just done...well, he probably couldn't even wrap his mind around how much trouble he would be in!

Next, some repair work.

This is where I turned it over to the pros. New tile is installed and the surrounding cabinetry is prepped for paint.

Priming and Painting...

New flooring and the fabulous new mantel...

Decorating and it's done! Beyond delighted, I'd do it over again in a heartbeat...

Incredible, Janell! I love how you extended the fireplace out to the built-ins and then painted everything white. It's got a wonderfully substantial look that's both traditional and comfortable.

And your built-ins are EXACTLY what I'm looking for to fill the niches on either side of my fireplace.

Janell,

Would you mind posting where you found the couches and the rug??? Love everything you do! Thanks!

Janell @ Isabella and Max said...

Yes, the sofas are from www.vangoghdesigns.com, a furniture line I sell to my clients. These are the Lisbon. The felted shag rug is from pottery barn, Ivory.

Good luck with any decorating project you are undertaking!! Janell

Hi-I love looking at all the rooms you have done. I have trouble with paint; can you please tell me what paint colors you have used in your family room and bedroom. I saw the office color and the other bedrooms but cannot find the others on the site. Thanks so much.

Janell @ Isabella and Max said...

Hi Tracie,
The bedroom is painted SW Universal Khaki, which I've also used in the kitchen. The family room is a color from the same card, SW Quiver Tan.
Good luck selecting your colors, testing a couple hues you think are right, to see how they look in the space, is often key!

Love this room! I found your blog from a link at Favorite Paint Colors. It's gorgeous. If you don't mind, what color did you use for the built-ins? I'm moving into a new house and will be re-painting my built-ins and trim. I'm trying to get ideas and buy samples from there. Love the Auction chairs, too, by the way.

Janell @ House of Fifty said...

The color is Sherwin Williams Softer Tan. It reads much lighter in person (and online) than it does on the paint chip. A nice warm neutral, choose this color as all the millwork, doors and kitchen cabinets are painted this color.

All the best with your project! Janell
