I am not big into seasonal decor.
I started to come to terms with this while watching nearly everyone in blogland post all their creative holiday decor projects. You are amazing. However, seeing your perfectly decorated porches, mantels and tables I began to feel...stress! For me, I can't get around the amount of time these projects would take just to turn around and spend more time taking it all down!
My solution, a 30 minute project that will require just another 5 minutes to take down. This I can handle and the kids are happy with the result.
We all pitched in and cut a collection of rather odd looking bats. To these I attached thread and tape to hang them from the ceiling. Isabella decided to get all creative on me, tiring of cutting bats, and made a few spiders instead. She then pulled out some left over web stuff (that we had covered the front yard shrubbery with) and wrapped the spiders in webs to be hung from the ceiling. Max taped a few bats to the windows, my husband put the ladder away and we were done.
Happy Halloween...my style!

Girl, I am SO with you on this one. I'm all about simplifying these days. I've scaled down my seasonal decorating in a big way and I gotta tell ya - it has made my life so much easier! I knew it was a problem when I started looking forward to the week AFTER Christmas, when everything would come down. Thanks for another refreshing post!
Always your fan, Kim
Works for me! I'm too scary for the halloween decor. I know I'll have to start doing it when the boys are older...
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to walk up to a beautifully decorated porch with pumpkins sitting on bales of hay with a few black spiders & webs thrown into the mix. But how much time does a girl have?...on the other hand, I will put HOURS into something that will be around for a few years!!

The bats in the foyer are really cool and seem simple to do. That would be a fun craft project for when my boys get older.
I know the feeling! I love the IDEA of holiday decorating but can't manage to find the time (especially since I'm still just plain decorating my half-empty house!).
Your quicky and dirty solution looks adorable though (and a great way to involve the kiddos).
Oh - I'm with you here. I'm not great at seasonal decorating. I save that energy for Christmas, when I try to make a little effort. Cute bats!
Looks great and just the right amount. I too was beginning to feel a little lame because I didn't have all the decorations up indoors and out. I did give in and did a few touches here and there. I mostly did it for my 2 year old. And I have to say it was fun. most importantly it can be taken down in a snap.
I'm with you. I'm working on getting a LITTLE better about seasonal/holiday decorating, but really the only one I've typically put time into is Christmas. I like your "Batty" decor though! :-)
I don't normally do fall decorating either but my son did get a tabletop graveyard out of me this year ! Thanks blogland. I'm sure your kids loved it.
Janell, I have to say I don't know how you find the time to do half the stuff you do! (or anyone else whose wonderful blogs I have been introduced to through yours). The bats look cool, and just think, you won't even have to make them for next year, so it'll be even less time. Finally, could you please tell me what is the brand/color of the wall paint behind the collage of white frames holding your children's art in your post of a few posts ago. I asked the question there, but it must have been after you stopped checking that one. Thank you so much! -L in Michigan
I'm sorry I didnt mean to stress you out with my post today!
I do go a little overboard with the decorating, but I also have zero children and my boyfriend is in gradschool so he is gone most evenings. To keep myself busy I just make stuff around the house :) Like I said in another comment though I know as soon as I have kids I will be lucky if I get a pumpkin out on the steps :)
I think your bats are awesome and I might just copy the idea haha :)
i love that you got halloween decorating stress!!!
i adore your bats. seriously, your blog is so refreshing.

Yeah, my seasonal decor is not exactly inspiring, I can't even keep my house clean. But I love those bats. My boys would love that project.
I love it! Way to go! I'm like you, I love holiday decorations, but usually forgo them myself. But this, I could do! Thanks for the idea :)
hahah i LOVE it!!! great idea!!! I might have to copy you if i can get around to it!!! :)
Just read your "Dallas" incident post on white house black market - SO funny. And brutally unfair! Cruel fashion gods there. It reminds me of an incident at the White House. Don't quote me - I THINK it was Mamie Eisenhower - who had ordered a gown for a special event that the designer assured her was one of a kind. She came down the stairs on the President's arm - only to see a woman in the receiving line wearing her EXACT dress. She marched straight up to her and said "my dear, I hope I look as lovely in my dress as you do in yours." THAT's class - and that's what you did!
What fun. Everyone must have loved hanging up all the bats and spiders. I can just picture everyone cutting out their project.
Those are soooo cute!! I'm also so far behind on your blog posts.
Have a great day!
Loving the bats hovering in your house.
Happy weekend!
