Light Fixture Happiness

Early this past Saturday morning my husband called out, "A big box is on the front porch."

It was the fixture I had just ordered from Shades of Light...I'd let it sit out on the porch all night long?! Anyone could have taken it. Though I would have been just a bit suspicious if one of my neighbors suddenly had a Riveria Lantern hanging in their home.

If left to his own devices, Roscoe would have eaten the fixture for breakfast.

My husband saved it from that threat and proceeded with his role in the decorating game. He long ago accepted the fact that when a new fixture arrives it's his job to hold it up in the room. I am impatient and must see a preview of things to come.

Then I had to wait a whole day to install it. If you read my tweets you know I bought my Dad lunch as a bribe to get him to help hang the fixture...but who ended up on the ladder?! Once installed, we checked to make sure I had wired it properly.

Then the ivory fabric shade was added...no orange glow! The lines and finish of the lantern are a perfect compliment to the space.

In the evening the room glows beautifully.

However, there is just one problem...do you see it?

Yay! So excited for you! I'm so focused on loving the fixture in the room that I'm not seeing any issues, but I'm wondering if L.Duncan has pinpointed it?

Good guess Dianne, but it is centered...here's a clue, it's the "domino effect"!

I'm thinking you now want to replace your foyer fixture with one of these? Very pretty ~ I love the shape.

I love it! I'm so glad you went with this one. I also see a domino effect, which would involve your foyer chandelier!

Hello,
Stopping in from SITS. That is a gorgeous fixture, the only issue I see is that maybe the other one is screaming out for you to change it as well? Stop in some time for a cocktail!
Cheers!

It looks like Kathy, Design Esquire and ByDSea guessed it - changing out the foyer one. Love the photo of your husbands. I've often thought if all our husbands got together and made a blog about their experiences with design-focused wives it would be hysterical!

thanks for the heads up about the knobs. (and coming all the way over to my humble blogging corner to tell me!)

i've been poking around your site, and some of your spaces are really fresh. they seem traditional for a moment, but then there's all kinds of interesting, unexpected pieces to look at! i love the way they flow...

WOW! Its gorgeous, Janell! Well worth the research, and the waiting for it to come and the installing. It is amazing how lighting can change a space. I've been wanting to use a lantern in our home somewhere, and now you really have me itching to do it. Simply beautiful! Is it bright enough to work by at night?

Thanks for your comments on my new bathroom wall art:)

Ahh, scope creep... change one thing and before you know it, you're changing the whole room! Lovely light fixture. It plays so well against the wallpaper. Thanks for adding me to your blogroll!

Oh, if all our husbands/BFs in blogland united and posted about their dealings with US...yikes. Would be quite hysterical I am sure.

The photos are taken with the dimmer down, it does give off quite a bit of light to work by!

Thanks for everyone's comments...

I love how it looks in there, its perfect!

I also LOVE the orange lamp shade- where did you get it??

Stunning! And I'm going to assume that you now want to change out the chandy in the foyer...(this is the problem with decorating; once you start, you can't stop!).

I love that you had to take a photo of your husband holding up the light! I have to say I have done this many times with my OH trying to hold 3 photo frames while I tell him higher or lower!

Love how the light almost mirrors the pattern of the wallpaper. My kind of lady!
Also love the glow from it at night, espec the shadows of the antlers I find strangely nice!

The poor old husbands should definitely get together. :)

Love the new light fitting but I can see how the dastardly Duke of Domino might be entering the plot...
