The Designer Next Door

Meet the very talented Dianne, of SimplyDesign.

Imagine my delight, after moving into the new neighborhood last fall, to learn this designer is a neighbor just down the street!

As we got to know one another over the next several months we realized our skills and specific areas of interests within design are a wonderful compliment to one another. When I got a lead on a kitchen remodel that required reworking a large portion of the main floor layout, I knew Dianne was the person to work with. Having worked together well on this project we look forward to many similar opportunities in the future. Dianne is very skilled in space planning and moving a wall or two if needed, whereas my interests lie in the multitude of selections and details after the dirty work has been done.

In a post Dianne wrote yesterday she outlines the steps taken to get from the Before Floor Plan shown below:

To the After Floor Plan here:

Apart from the changes which make the kitchen a much more usable space, the aspect of this project that I think has the biggest impact is the reworked entrance to the garage. Before the only way to access the garage was through the combined powder/laundry room. Now there is a direct path through a new combination mudroom/laundry room, allowing the powder room to be just that! (Nearly brilliant I think!)

Make sure to visit her informative blog, simplydesign, to see more about this and other projects.

Wow, what a difference! I had to look at it for about 20 min.!!! I'm going to check out her blog now...

BTW, I noticed that the link to your blog from my post yesterday was wrong so I fixed it (in case you noticed!)

It must be great to be able to collaborate with someone that has complementary by not overlapping skills. I always find you end up learning so much when you have this situation.

One of my favorite quotes is from Edward Tufte, "Good design is clear thinking made visible."

You both seem to incorporate that in your work. Very cool....

Nice! And tell your neighborhood to stop stealing all of the lovely people. :)

Wow I love Dianne's changes! They really make a huge impact functionally (and aesthetically). I hadn't seen her blog before but I'll be adding it to my "must read" list.

Hey, Janell! I'm so jealous...I want a designer neighbor! How great that you two met and can collaborate:) Thanks for pointing us in Dianne's direction.

And thanks so much again for your wonderful comments on my blog. Especially my invitation work. It really means a lot to me that someone with your aesthetic approves!

How fun (and convenient!) to have a neighbor that you can collaborate with! Based on what I've seen from the two of you, you'll be unstoppable. Enjoyed checking out her blog - thanks for the introduction.
