A Long Neglected Coffee Table

"Update: This coffee table is attending Transformation Thursday at The Shabby Chic Cottage!"

Is there a better price tag than free?

This coffee table became my husbands when it was left behind in an apartment and given to him by the super. It remained in the before state for quite a few years until one day it struck me that it actually had potential! Why hadn't I noticed how it was made from beautiful wood with wonderfully simple lines before?

After years serving as our coffee table and then a table in the playroom it had taken a beating.

Bringing out its beauty was easy, requiring only a good sanding and a layer of Dark Walnut Minwax Stain.

It occupied the center of the living room for a time, but has now been moved under the window. Baskets will be placed underneath to store more magazines, product catalogs and fabric samples.

Are you wondering where this room is headed? The new furniture layout, allowing for a work space, will include a large round pedestal table placed in the middle of the room. A light fixture will be hung above for ample lighting and wonderfully comfortable seating will be placed around the table. Not only will this function as a place to get some work done, but after hours it can also be an inviting place to play board games with the kids. I can hardly wait for the room to be done!

I see that we both did a few of the "suggested changes"!!!

Anyway about the table...
You really did a good job with the table. I have plans for some Minwax stain in walnut myself! Quick question: Is the heirloom white spray paint a creamy white? It's hard to see in pictures.

Isn't the Thrifty Decor Chick the best?!

The heirloom white is a very warm ivory, cream really. I'm off to Home Depot to get more of it this morning myself!

What project are you using the paint for? Do I have to just wait and see?

I want to try the Heirloom white in my "office"! The stain will be used on a coffee table I picked up in July and my rails on my stairs and kitchen. I've never used stain before so I hope it goes well!

Table looks great. What finish was the walnut stain -- gloss or satin?

I love it! It turned out fantastic. I did the same thing to our coffee table a couple months ago, I never blogged about it but I just love it. It used to be a pine color and now is dark ebony. Ok, I must get back to painting.

I pulled out the can of Minwax Stain, Dark Walnut 2716, and it doesn't indicate a finish. However, below this can of stain was the can of Minwax Polyurethane in Clear Satin, that I applied to the table as a protective finish. I forgot to mention this step in the blog! Hope this helps.
